THE family of a popular Irish bar owner in Lanzarote have paid heartfelt tributes following his death.
Gilbert Brown, whose family run the popular The Spinnaker Bar and Restaurant in Lanzarote, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12.

The day he died marked his 52nd wedding anniversary to his late wife, Hazel.
The sad news was confirmed in a social media post shared by Gilbert’s family, who said they were “heartbroken” to announce his passing.
They stated: “It is with a heavy heart that we regretfully inform all our friends of The Spinnaker that our father, Gilbert Brown, passed away peacefully this morning here in Lanzarote.
“Monday would have marked his and Hazel’s 52nd wedding anniversary, and we take comfort in believing they are together again.”
A death notice said Gilbert “will be lovingly remembered” by his heartbroken family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
It read: “Deeply saddened by his passing are sons Steven (Angela), Garrett (Philippa), Raymond (Siran) and daughter Nicola.
“Gilbert will be lovingly remembered by his cherished grandchildren Connor, Emma, Ruby and Coral; sisters and sister and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours and wider family circle.”
Gilbert’s remains were returned to Donegal where he will be laid to rest.
His funeral will take place at Christ Church, Buncrana at 12 noon and will then be followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.
