Footballer Youssou Diouf tragically dies after collapsing on pitch and being rushed to hospital as statement is released

A FOOTBALLER has died after collapsing on a football pitch after making his debut.
AS Saloum forward Youssou Diouf passed away on Sunday after he collapsed during a second division game in Senegal.
The fixture between Saloum and Amitié FC was overshadowed by the tragedy.
A report by Wiwsport claims that the incident happened just after the final whistle of the 0-0 draw.
Diouf, 25, has only come into the action with ten minutes to play after being substituted on.
It was just his first appearance for the club.
After the final whistle, the forward appeared to fall unwell and received immediate medical attention.
Despite receiving medical care, he reportedly died on the spot.
Diouf’s death was announced in a post on social media by the Senegalese Professional Football League.
It read: “The Senegalese Professional Football League (LSFP) has learned with deep sadness of the death of Youssou Diouf, a player for AS Saloum, which occurred this Sunday, February 22, 2026.
“The incident took place following the match between Amitie FC and AS Saloum, held at the Maniang Soumare Stadium in Thies, as part of the 13th day of the Ligue 2 Championship.
“Youssou Diouf, who entered the game in the 80th minute, felt unwell after the final whistle.
“Despite the prompt intervention of the medical services present at the stadium and his evacuation to the regional hospital in Thies, he unfortunately passed away.
“In these painful circumstances, the president of the LSFP and all members of the board of directors present their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and players of AS Saloum, as well as the entire Senegalese football family.
“The LSFP remains in contact with the relevant authorities and the club to provide all necessary support.”
The comment section was flooded with tributes to the star.
