Heartache as two men found dead in rural Tyrone home named locally as father & son amid ‘do not speculate’ probe plea

TWO men who were found dead in rural Co Tyrone have been named locally as a father and son.

James Grimes, 85, and his son Emmett, 54, were found dead at their home in the Garvaghy area of Ballygawley on Tuesday night.

The road near Omagh was closed by officers overnight after the find.

Deborah Erskin, DUP MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, warned people not to speculate or share misinformation about the case.

She said on social media yesterday: “Very sad news overnight. My foremost thoughts are with the family, who will be devastated at the loss of two family members.

Erskin added: “Police will provide an update in due course. Please do not speculate or share misinformation.”

Sinn Fein MLA Colm Gildernew shared his shock at the news and echoed Erskin’s warning against speculation.

He told Belfast Live: “The deaths of the two men in the Garvaghy Road area has shocked the local community. My thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have died at this difficult time.

“I would urge people not to speculate on the incident and allow police to carry out their full investigations.”

Sinn Fein MP for West Tyrone Órfhlaith Begley said: “Tragic news this morning with two sudden deaths in Garvaghy.

The PSNI said that the pairs death was “sudden” and is carrying out post mortem examinations to determine a cause.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sudden deaths of two men in the Garvaghy area of Ballygawley.”

“Post mortem examinations will be carried out in due course to establish cause of death.”
