Two male teenagers dead and three other teens rushed to hospital after single-vehicle crash in Mayo as Gardai shut road

TWO teenagers have died and three others have been rushed to hospital following a crash in Co Mayo early this morning.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on the L5140 at Laghtadawannagh near Ballina.

Gardai and emergency services responded to the crash shortly after 4.15am this morning.

Two men aged in their late teens were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Two males aged in their mid-teens and a female aged in her late teens were take to Mayo University Hospital by ambulance.

It is understood their injuries are not life-threatening.

The local road remains closed this morning to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Diversions are in place for motorists in the area.

The coroner has been notified of the deaths and post-mortems will be carried out in the coming days.

Gardai have now appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

They are particularly interested in speaking to those with dashcam footage.

A spokesperson said today: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time are asked to make it available to investigating Gardai.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
