Murder probe launched after woman, 20s, found dead in Co Fermanagh house & man, 45, arrested amid PSNI appeal

POLICE have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman, aged in her 20s, in Co Fermanagh.
Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team are carrying out door-to-door inquiries after a woman’s body was discovered at a property in Enniskillen.
Officers were first alerted after receiving a report that a grey Nissan Juke had been involved in a collision on the Carn Road near Tempo at around 9.15pm on Saturday.
When they arrived at the scene of the crash they located the vehicle, however the driver had already left the area.
Further enquiries found out that the car was registered to an address in the Corban Avenue area of Enniskillen.
Police then attended the house and discovered the body of a woman, aged in her 20s, inside the property.
A short time later, a 45-year-old man was arrested near the Carn Road on suspicion of murder and other related offences.
And he now remains in police custody while detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Robinson, from the Major Investigation Team, said: “When officers arrived at the house they discovered the body of a woman, aged in her 20s.
“A short time later, a man aged 45, was arrested near the scene on the Carn Road on suspicion of murder and other related offences.
“He remains in police custody at this time as enquiries continue.
“Our detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, and I am appealing to anyone with information that could assist with our investigation to come forward.”
Investigators have since been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area and examining the CCTV footage of nearby properties.
Police want to speak to anyone who was travelling along the Cornagrade Road into Corban Avenue between 6.30pm and 10.45pm on Saturday evening.
And they said that violence against women and girls remains a major priority and incidents of this nature cause concern within communities.
Officers said that detectives are working quickly to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Commander Superintendent Pete Cunningham said his thoughts were with the victim’s family and friends during this time.
He also urged members of the public not to speculate while the investigation remains ongoing.
He said: “First and foremost my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends as they struggle to come to terms with what has happened.
“I want to reassure the local community that detectives are working at pace, and we would also urge members of the public not to speculate.
“As a victim-focused organisation, violence against women and girls is a priority for policing, and I understand that incidents like this will cause significant concern.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure women and girls feel safe in our communities.”
Sinn Fein MLA Jemma Dolan said the death has come as a shock to many people in the local community.
She encouraged anyone who may have information about what happened to come forward and speak with police.
Anyone with information about what happened on Saturday evening is now being asked to contact police on 101 quoting the reference number 1564.
An increased police presence will remain in the area over the coming days as the investigation continues.
