MUM’S MISSION

Tearful Grace Lynch’s mum in moving ‘I will get laws changed’ vow before Minister meeting as she shares tragic details

GRACE Lynch’s grieving mum has vowed to change the law on scramblers ahead of a meeting with the Transport Minister today.

Tragic Grace, 16, died after she was hit by one of the high-powered bikes in her native Finglas, Dublin, on the way to see her partner Harry Byrne on January 25.

In a tearful video shared on social media yesterday, Grace’s mum Siobhan said she will fight for a bike ban so she never has to see a scrambler again.

She and Grace’s dad Martin are set to meet Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien and Road Safety Minister Sean Canney today.

The heartbroken mum said: “We are fighting for the law tomorrow for everybody to keep Ireland safe and to keep your families safe so that nobody ever has to endure a tragedy that we as a family have suffered.”

Opening up on what she will say in the meeting, she said: “We have got our points for tomorrow and we will be using those points and we will make ourselves very, very clear on this law and try to get this implemented as soon as possible.

“I never, ever want to see a scrambler again in my life. Never.

“I just hope that if mothers are out there and that you know your child is going around on these things, stop it. If you love your child, take it off them.”

She added: “I will shout from the rooftops and I will get laws changed in this country and I won’t stop until I do.

“I’m happy enough that I’m doing everything that I can for my baby, for her sisters, for her little brother, the hurt in my children, the hurt in her father – no family should ever have to suffer like this.

“To lose a child is horrific, but to lose them the way I lost my baby, to know that she was so broken.

“She got up that morning with plans and she never came home.”

She continued: “We have to suffer for the rest of our lives for the loss of that beautiful, beautiful little girl.”

The Irish Sun’s Ban The Bikes campaign has backed calls from Grace’s family to remove scramblers from our roads.

Siobhan also shared the heartbreaking news that she has picked out a “gorgeous colour” for Grace’s headstone.

She said: “I would have loved to have seen it there for her birthday in June. She would have been 17 on June 30.

“Again, going up to a graveyard with balloons and flowers and putting them on an innocent little baby’s grave is just – there’s no words for that. It’s heartbreaking.”

Siobhan shared: “I slept in Grace’s bed last night because I think I just needed that comfort.

“And I slept in her pajamas too, she’d probably be saying, ‘Get my pajamas off, get out of my bed!’

“It was just the smell of her on the pillows and I could feel her with me. And I woke up this morning a lot more positive, a lot more focused on her and these laws and making her proud. That’s what I need.”
