Woman killed in crash between airport shuttle & car in Co Antrim as bus driver rushed to hospital & major road closed

A WOMAN was killed in a crash between an airport shuttle bus and her car this morning in Co Antrim.
The bus driver, aged in his 60s, was also rushed to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.


The PSNI, firefighters and ambulances rushed to the scene of the collision on Ballyrobin Road near Templepatrick just after 8am this morning.
The PSNI confirmed that they are investigating the two-vehicle crash between the Translink bus and a black Citroen.
Pictures showed an airport shuttle bus to the side of the road and a badly damaged car.
The front of the bus and the car are both seriously damaged.
A spokesperson for the National Ireland Ambulance Service told the Belfast Telegraph that an Air Ambulance attended the scene.
The PSNI confirmed that the road remains closed.
Cops have called for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forwards.
Detective Inspector Stewart from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “Police received a report of a two vehicle collision, involving a bus and a black Citroen C1, at approximately 8:00am on Saturday morning
“Officers attended alongside emergency services partners, however the driver of the Citroen was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The driver of the bus, a man in his sixties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
“Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 341 14/02/26.”
MOTORIST WARNING
The PSNI earlier warned people heading to Belfast Airport today to take extra time for their journey or to use another route.
A spokesperson said: “Diversions are in place at the roundabout of the Ballyrobin Road, Old Ballyrobin Road at its junction with Ballyrobin Road and Rickmore Road Upper.
“If travelling to the airport from M2, travel through Templepatrick then take the A6 Belfast Road for approximately three miles before turning left onto A26 Oldstone Road for three miles then turn right onto Ballyrobin Road and continuing as normal to the airport.”
Traffic Watch Northern Ireland said: “Road users are asked to avoid the Ballyrobin Rd, Templepatrick, due to a serious two vehicle road traffic collision in the area.
“PSNI are in attendance and diversions are in place. Please allow extra time for your journey.”
