Eddie McCreadie was an icon of Chelsea

A year later, the team reached the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup and defeated Real Madrid, although McCreadie himself was unable to play in the decisive match due to injury.

In total, he made 410 appearances in a Chelsea shirt. Between 1965 and 1969, he was also a Scotland international, earning 23 caps for the national team. He went down in history thanks to the memorable victory over England at Wembley in 1967, when the Scots beat the then world champions 3–2, symbolically declaring themselves the new best team in the world.

After ending his playing career, McCreadie returned to Chelsea as a manager, holding the position from 1975 to 1977. He passed away on Monday, January 12, at the age of 85.
