ACTION NOW

The Irish Sun’s new Ban The Bikes campaign calls on Govt to finally pass laws to tackle scourge of dangerous scramblers

THE Irish Sun’s new Ban The Bikes campaign calls on the Government and An Garda Siochana to get dangerous scrambler bikes off our roads and out of our parks for good.

We call on the Coalition to STOP dragging its feet and action the legislation that lets the Transport Minister ban these bikes in public spaces.

We are also demanding An Garda Siochana enforce this ban by getting tough on gangs and seizing scramblers.

The Government needs to give gardai ALL the resources they need to track and take these bikes out of circulation for good.

Tragic Grace Lynch, 16, was hit and killed by a scrambler as she crossed the road near her home in Finglas, Dublin earlier this year.

Lives are being stolen or irreparably damaged by awful incidents involving these vehicles.

We say that enough is enough, and call on the Government and the gardai to do everything they can to get these killer bikes off our roads.

Our Ban The Bikes campaign wants to see lawmakers fast track and enforce an outright ban on these bikes on our roads and in our public parks.

Legislation passed in 2023 already gives gardai the power to seize these bikes with almost 300 scramblers seized over the past two years.

This legislation also gives the Minister the power to ban these bikes from public roads and public parks but these regulations were never signed into force.

Taoiseach and Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin has admitted that this “should have been done”.

The time is now to finally tackle this problem properly, pass the legislation and enact a crackdown to rid our streets of these dangerous vehicular weapons.
