Boy, 11, critically ill in hospital after being hit by BMW car in Belfast as man, 34, arrested & released on bail

AN 11-year-old boy is critically ill in hospital following a road collision in Belfast.
Police said a grey BMW X5 and the child, who was a pedestrian, were involved in the incident in the Shankill Road on Saturday evening.
A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene, but has since been released.
A police spokesperson said they are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the collision which happened close to the junction with Boundary Street at approximately 7.25pm on Saturday.
They said: “The boy was taken to hospital following the collision where he remains in a critical condition at this time.
“A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been released on bail pending further police inquiries.
“Police inquiries are continuing, and officers would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have recorded footage which could assist with the investigation, to contact 101, quoting reference number 1365 07/03/26.”
Earlier, a motorcyclist died after a crash near Belfast.
PSNI and emergency services raced to the scene of the collision in Dunmurry shortly before 8am.
The rider of the motorcycle, aged in his 50s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene in the Queensway area.
Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The road was briefly closed by the cops while they worked at the scene and it has since reopened.
The PSNI has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage of what happened to contact them.
Detective Inspector Stewart from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “Police received a report of a collision involving a motorcycle in the Queensway area at approximately 7.30am this morning, Sunday 8 March.
“Officers attended alongside colleagues from other emergency services.
“Sadly, the rider of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
“The road which was closed for a time to facilitate emergency services access has now fully reopened.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage of what happened is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 414 08/03/26.”
