Four-car crash on major motorway near Dublin Airport as emergency services rush to scene amid 11-hr motorway closure

EMERGENCY services rushed to the scene of a four-car collision on the motorway near Dublin Airport this morning.

Pictures show several fire engines and an ambulance at the incident as several lanes were closed to traffic for some time this morning.

The crash occurred on the southbound side of the motorway between J3 Swords and J2 Airport, according to Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

Dublin Fire Brigade said they received reports of the crash at 6.48am this morning.

Firefighters and paramedics from Swords, Finglas and Phibsborough were dispatched to the scene.

The National Ambulance Service, Gardai and Motorway Traffic Incident Support also rushed to support them.

The vehicles involved in the collision were removed from the road and traffic restrictions were lifted at 8am.

In a full statement, Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Dublin Fire Brigade received reports of a four vehicle collision on the M1 at Junction 3 Southbound (before the slip for Dublin Airport) at 0648hrs this morning.

Firefighter/Paramedics from Swords, Finglas and Phibsborough were dispatched to the scene. 

“The National Ambulance Service, Gardaí and Motorway Traffic Incident Support also attended the incident.

“The vehicles were removed from the road and traffic restrictions were lifted at approx 0800hrs.”

Meanwhile, a full road closure has been announced on a major motorway in Limerick.

Roadworks will see all the westbound lanes of the M7 closed between J27 Birdhill and J28 Castleroy.

The motorway closure will last 11 hours, starting on Thursday at 7pm and ending at 6am the following morning.

TII warned drivers that diversions will be in place and to “expect delays”.
